CURRENT CEP/ TTP CALENDER:

    Embedding sustainability
    in Urban Architecture

Coordinated by:Poorva Keskar (Head, Department of Environmental Planning and Architecture, BNCA, Pune)

    Dates : 16th to 20th March 2009
    Venue : NIASA, Pune

India is experiencing unprecedented growth in the last few years. Huge Infrastructure development projects are being executed to service the growing economy and population. Architectural practice is longer limited to building design. Projects like SEZ’s and Townships are demanding Urban Design and Planning Initiatives.

With Globalization and opening up of Foreign Direct Investment Policy, many off shore companies are setting up their offices in India. The building design practice has also metamorphosed to cater to the “Global Image” and “Comfort Needs”.

At the other end, India is experiencing energy deficit, environmental degradation, natural resource depletion and increase in carbon dioxide emissions. The speed of development is heartening, but will continue to be a positive phenomenon only if sustainability principles are embedded in our thought. Ensuring least negative impact on environment while achieving comfort conditions and addressing aesthetics and financial feasibility will have to be the path taken.

    Pre-Engineered Buildings

Coordinated by: Prashant Deshmukh, Leading Architect and Renowned Educationist , Pune.

    Dates : 23rd to 26th March 2009
    Venue : NIASA, Pune

Pre-engineered buildings are a contemporary concept that is gaining popularity globally. This technology deals with critically designed structural systems to withstand all kinds of stresses - natural & otherwise, including seismic, wind etc. The designs are done with the help of sophisticated software to arrive at economical structural steel designs, detailing of the joints etc. The software also enables the designer to save time involved in calculating active forces at all nodal points while simplifying them for fabrication and actual execution or erection. The building designs can thus be made aesthetically pleasing and elegant. The Pre-engineered technique automatically delivers the ideal solution to the design problem.

The focus of the course will be on three types of buildings:-

    1. Residential and Commercial buildings - multi storied deliberation.
    2. Industrial buildings
    3. Airports and Specialty Structures

The course capsule is expected to open up a new window for architects and structural designers which will help them comprehend conceptually modern buildings.
